Each year, more than 30,000 cases of oral cancer are diagnosed in the U.S. The encouraging news is that when caught early, oral cancer is highly treatable. That’s why Dr. Barack and Dr. Gupta offer simple, painless exams to detect signs before they become serious.

Oral cancer often begins with no symptoms, which makes professional screenings essential. The most common type is squamous cell carcinoma, usually starting in the lips, tongue, or mouth tissues. Cancer may also develop in the throat, gums, or salivary glands.

During your exam, we’ll carefully check for red or white patches, sores that don’t heal, or tissue changes. We’ll also gently feel the face, glands, and neck for any unusual lumps. If anything concerning is found, we’ll explain your options and guide you through the next steps of care.

Since more than 75% of oral cancers are linked to smoking, tobacco, and heavy alcohol use, we also can provide resources to help you lower your risks.
